Poor Richard's Brew

Medium Roast

Origin: Sul de Minas, Brazil
Process: Natural
Altitude: 950 – 1,200 m
What we taste: Brown sugar, dark chocolate, nutty

From high elevations in Brazil’s Sul de Minas region, this naturally processed coffee grew in fertile soils and a stable climate, allowing for gradual cherry maturation, and resulting in a balanced, smooth cup. This coffee was sourced from Minasul, a cooperative based in the city of Varginha, that represents over 6,000 smallholder producers. This cooperative builds upon the traditional coffee-growing culture, while also prioritizing better quality and innovation, just like Old City Coffee. This lot is of the high SSFC grade (Strictly Soft Fine Cup), meaning the beans are denser and create a cleaner and smoother cup.

The Story

Poor Richard’s Brew is a nod to Benjamin Franklin’s early publication, Poor Richard’s Almanack. Written under the pseudonym Richard Saunders, this almanack offered entertainment, as well as news and lifestyle advice to an audience of up to ten thousand people in Philadelphia. We won’t tell you how to best live your life but perhaps starting your day with this economical and high-quality medium roast could set good things in motion. You’ll have to wait until the next issue (bag) to find out!
