The Story
From Peru’s Café Selva Norte, this washed coffee has typical Peruvian notes. With our medium roast, it offers a subtle chocolatey sweetness and a distinct tobacco flavor without the bitter aftertaste. Café Selva Norte is an alliance of cooperatives that aims to support sustainable farming and combat land degradation, while also operating processing facilities to support smallholder communities in Northern Peru. By increasing accessibility to equipment and other resources, they allow smaller landholders to compete with larger coffee farmers. This mirrors Old City Coffee’s mission of supporting other small businesses, which can ultimately help bring higher quality products to all.
Beyond helping local farmers, Café Selva Norte heads the Selva Norte Conservation Project, which works to minimize deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions in the tropical forests of Peru. Their conservation efforts aim to strengthen biodiversity, while also supporting local communities in leading sustainable practices. We like to think that these eco-friendly practices make this Peruvian coffee taste even sweeter!
