Our collaboration with the Curtis Institute continues this Sunday! We have a fantastic performer coming to our cafe from 3-4pm on 1/8!

Timmy Chooi, from Victoria, B.C., entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 2010
and studies violin with Ida Kavafian. All students at Curtis receive merit-based,
full-tuition scholarships, and Mr. Chooi is the Marcy Gringlas and Joel Greenberg Annual Fellow.

A winner of numerous competitions, Mr. Chooi was 16 years old when he
captured the Grand Prix at the 2010 Orchestre symphonique de Montréal
Standard Life Competition. This led to numerous engagements, including a
debut with the orchestra and conductor Jean-François Rivest. Most recently, he
was awarded the bronze medal at the 2015 Michael Hill International Violin Competition in New Zealand.

Chooi’s upcoming performances include engagements with the Montreal
Symphony Orchestra, Santa Barbara Symphony, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra,
a recital tour of Canada. In past seasons he has performed with orchestras across
the world, including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, National Arts Centre
Orchestra, Toronto Philharmonia, Auckland Philharmonia, and Malaysian
Philharmonic Orchestra. He was worked with conductors such as Pinchas
Zukerman, Benjamin Zander, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Kent Nagano, and Yoav Talmi.
