PHILADELPHIA 04/06/17 — There has been a lot of buzz recently about super-strength coffees with ominous sounding brand names and caffeine content up to 702 milligrams of caffeine per serving, compared to the 75 to 200 milligrams per serving of caffeine in most brewed coffees, espressos, and lattes.
 
Here at Old City Coffee (OCC) we feel these enhanced coffee blends and roasts are mostly hype to make you hyper.
 
The key to a really satisfying brew is very simple. Instead of tinkering with the natural strength or agronomy of traditional arabica coffee, we focus on carefully selecting varietals and maintaining the maximum freshness of the coffee beans. It’s tiny batch freshness that gives OCC coffee a natural sensory jolt. The water to coffee ratio when brewing at full extraction is the single most important variable in determining coffee strength. The determination is easily adjusted to your personal taste. We like ours strong!
 
From a health perspective, The Mayo Clinic recommends that safely drinking these enhanced coffees, with more than three times the caffeine, means cutting back on the number cups your drink each day.
Most of our patrons feel that the reward and satisfaction of a few good strong cups a day is more to the point of the coffee experience. We strive to provide an invigorating brew strength of our urn brewed coffee.
